Funzi Keys

Classic Destination

Funzi Island is a tiny speck of land in the Indian Ocean off the Kenyan Coast. It is covered in mangrove trees, swaying palms and sugar white sand; its seclusion means that it is perfect for those looking for the ultimate beach hideaway. Its location on a west facing beach means it has glorious African sunsets. It was voted by Tatler Travel Guide as one of the 101 best hotels.

The nine stone and thatch cottages, including two family cottages, blend into the beachfront setting. They reflect the influence of the local culture and coastal architecture. It's all very ethnic and very funky, to the extent that in front of each cottage is an incredibly stylish sand floored sitting area where camp fires are lit each night so guests can enjoy a drink and watch the sun go down in total privacy.

The essence of Funzi is absolute informality with no dress code or fixed meal times. When and where you eat is up to you, whether it is the upper level restaurant overlooking the water, a lazy lunch by the pool or a romantic candle lit dinner on the beach, seafood will feature highly on the menu.

Guests can enjoy sailing, creek fishing, deep sea fishing, snorkelling, windsurfing and canoeing, or perhaps take a boat trip up the Ramisi River or Funzi Creek for an unforgettable glimpse of kingfishers, crocodiles and even dolphins.

Funzi Keys is a 15 minute light aircraft transfer from Mombassa.
