Islands of Kenya

The 480 kilometres of Kenyan coastline and the islands off it offer the perfect way to end your Kenyan safari. Along it are pristine white beaches, warm turquoise waters and idyllic secluded islands, all steeped in a distinct and evocative culture that stretches back centuries. The coast was a key stop on the spice route, where, from the 9th century, Indian, Arabic and African traders settled to create a Swahili culture that is still thriving on the Kenyan Islands today.

Although some of Kenya's endless sandy beaches have become increasingly popular over the last few years, our intimate knowledge of the area means we can suggest private houses, small hotels or resorts that are located in remote and idyllic locations.

Kenya is 3 hours ahead of GM time.

When to go

The Kenya coast is best from October to April. The long rains are from April to July and many of our properties are closed then. The temperature is fairly constant, around 27 degrees year round, but the months of August and September in Kenya can be windy.

Getting there

A comprehensive domestic flight service linking the game rich National Parks and the beautiful Indian Ocean coastline is operated by both the national carrier, Kenya Airways and the regional airline, Air Kenya (along with other domestic carriers).

Flying to the Kenyan Coast from the UK is also easy; there are direct flights with British Airways and Kenya Airways to the gateway cities of Nairobi and Mombassa.
