The Grand Hotel is an international standard hotel on the Rue Colbert, a main thoroughfare in Diego Suarez’ old quarter. It has all the facilities expected from an international standard hotel. It has a central location, a large pool and a prize-winning chef.
The hotel has 66 rooms, including four suites. All have air conditioning, satellite television, telephone, individual safe and mini bar. Suites have an additional sitting-room, with TV, and a second toilet.
We like the quieter rooms overlooking the pool, but you may prefer to be able to observe local life from your window.
The Grand Hotel has a lovely pool, a fitness centre, a bar, internet access and room service. The spa provides massage and beauty treatments, and has a Hammam. The shop sells local crafts and souvenirs.
The Ylang Ylang restaurant serves excellent French and Malagasy dishes. Chef Jackson won the title ‘Chef of the Year 2007’. You can enjoy your meal indoors or al fresco, in the open-air restaurant beside the pool, where pizza, salad and grills are also available. There is also a tea room and patisserie – Chef Jackson came second for pastry this year, 2008. Then of course, there is always “Le Retro”, the cozy little pub, in case you want to mingle and make some new friends.
The Grand Hotel is an ideal starting point for excursions to the 18,5000 hectare rainforest of Montagne d'Ambre National Park, famous for its waterfalls and crater lakes (35km from Diego Suarez); and Ankarana Special Reserve, known for its limestone karst pinnacles called Tsingy and caves (108km from Diego Suarez).
