Classic Destination
Situated in Mozambique’s magnificent Quirimbas Archipelago the remote Island of Matemo is an unspoilt, unexplored island paradise, with beautiful white beaches and thousands of palm trees swaying in the breeze. It is only eight kilometres in length and three kilometres wide.
Matemo Island Resort has 24 beautifully furnished chalets set along the beach. There are indoor showers and separate baths as well as a private outdoor shower.
Guests dine on sublime local seafood whilst over looking the sea.
Scuba diving at Matemo is considered some of the best in the world. However, the waters off Matemo Island are of such a superb standard that you need not be a scuba diver to enjoy the amazing diversity of the marine riches. There are a number of excellent sites where snorkellers will be able to appreciate the stunning tropical reefs, whales, dolphins, marine turtles and other exotic marine life.
The game fishing in the waters surrounding Mozambique’s Matemo Island is nothing short of spectacular. Species found include sailfish, marlin, kingfish, barracuda and dorado. Boats include a 31ft Gulfcraft, and rods and reels at Matemo are all of the highest quality.
Other activities available include water-skiing, wake and knee boarding, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, star gazing, bird watching, hiking trails & sunset cruises.
There are trips to Ibo Island, a must for those who want to experience a slice of traditional Mozambican culture.
Matemo is a 30 minute air transfer from Pemba.
