Quilalea

Classic Destination

Nestling in a corner of Mozambique’s Quirimbas Archipelago, Quilalea is a 35 hectare private island of unparalleled natural beauty; Quilalea is completely removed from civilisation. It is a diverse marine sanctuary and is surrounded by unspoilt beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The island is malaria free.

Quilalea is uninhabited apart from nine meticulously handcrafted villas made from traditional Muani natural stone and Makuti palm thatch. Private verandas and large windows offer panoramic sea views. Indigenous teak furnishings and beds draped in netting complete the romantic African-Arabian ambience.

Quilalea’s dining area and lounge overlook the sea and are situated to benefit from sunrise and sunset. Menus are based on fresh fish and seafood prepared in the traditional Mozambican style. You can also dine alfresco on the beach or in the privacy of your own villa.

Mozambique’s Quilalea is a water-lover's delight with activities ranging from superb diving and snorkelling, some of which can be done straight off the beach onto "home reef", fly-fishing, sport fishing, canoeing, sailing, swimming and bird watching. The more adventurous will head for the Saint Lazarus Bank, recognised as having the best unexplored diving in the world.

Children are welcome but there are no facilities apart from the pool.

Quilalea is a 25 minute air transfer from Mozambique’s Pemba and then a 20 minute boat transfer from Quirimbas Island.
