Classic Destination
Fundu Lagoon is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the south-western side of Pemba Island and is only accessible by boat. If it is a buzzing and lively destination with nightlife that you are after then Fundu Lagoon is not for you, try Zanzibar’s Stone Town. Fundu Lagoon is a peaceful and tranquil haven where the emphasis is on bare-foot luxury.
At Fundu Lagoon there are 16 spacious tents built on wooden decks under thatch roofs, each with a spectacular view of the ocean. One of Fundu’s owners is an interior designer and she has furnished the rooms exquisitely. Some rooms are situated along the beachfront with the remaining on an elevated position overlooking the sea. Honeymooners and romantic couples will adore Fundu Lagoon’s new superior suites which enjoy a fabulous beachfront location. The suites are wonderfully appointed and each has a double shower, a private plunge pool and dedicated butler service.
Sand walkways at Fundu Lagoon connect the rooms to the main building where the dining area has floating muslin, African art and a gleaming wooden bar. A second bar is perched out on a jetty over the ocean, perfect for an early evening cocktail! The menu is a showcase for locally grown produce and seafood purchased from the local fishermen. There are regular beach barbecues and Swahili Food Evenings.
Fundu Lagoon has its own PADI dive centre. Catamaran sailing charters are available as are traditional Dhow sailing trips, canoe trips to the mangroves and deep sea fishing trips. Other watersports include waterskiing and kayaking, there are also intertidal nature walks, a games room, and a massage and treatment room.
Getting to Fundu is all part of the experience and involves a light aircraft transfer from Zanzibar to Pemba’s airport where you will be met by resort staff and take a 35 minute road transfer to Mkoani Port. Here you will hop into a waiting speedboat which will whisk you to the resort in 20 minutes.
