Mara Plains Camp

Mara Plains is the most exciting new camp in Kenya's Masai Mara. It is situated just a few hundred meters to the north, in the Olare Orok Conservancy. The Conservancy is a spectacular wildlife reserve of nearly 20,000 acres.

The Olare Orok Conservancy is a haven for big cats, a route of migration and now offers some of East Africa's finest year-round game viewing. Visitors to the Olare Orok Conservancy need not experience the crowds for which the Masai Mara has become known. There is a strict minimum of at least 700 acres per guest tent, and camps are banned from using mini-buses.

Mara Plains is a peaceful, exclusive, seven-tented camp nestled in lush forest on the meandering bends of the Ntiakatek River. Each tent is classic and spacious, built on a raised, stilted wooden platform, with en-suite bathroom facilities and a private veranda that offers spectacular views over the vast, stretching plains. The camp has been designed and built to be as environmentally friendly as possible, so water is pumped to the rooms from a well by solar power and is heated either by solar or individual boilers burning wood from a sustainable source. There is 24-hour 240V electricity in each tent via an inverter and battery system.

By day the camp is a playground for Monkeys, Mongoose, and many of the Mara's 300 species of birds. After dark larger visitors frequent so guests are escorted to and from their rooms by Maasai warriors, and can lie safely in bed at night listening to hippos and buffalo mow the lawns outside.

Guests can game drive in both the Masai Mara and in the privacy of the Olare Orok Conservancy.
