Saruni is a deluxe and intimate owner run lodge in a private conservation area outside Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. It is set in a remote valley in the heart of the most exciting wilderness of Kenya. In order to reach camp you meander your way for 30 minutes thorough breathtaking scenery to a place high in the hills overlooking the whole of the Mara, it is so peaceful, remote and awesome!
With accommodation for only 12 guests Saruni’s six spectacular cottages with en-suite facilities are furnished with colonial antiques, Persian carpets and African art. On a recent visit we decided that their luscious bed linen was the best we had ever slept on! For those that need it there is excellent internet access. Décor is unique to each cottage and from the large verandas one can enjoy a unique view of the Mara plains and watch the many wild animals that come to the nearby waterhole. The atmosphere of the main areas of camp is also informal but elegant and the food is largely Italian and is outstanding. The camps owner, Ricardo, is never far away and dines with the guests.
Activities include safari game drives, night drives, guided bush walks, bush meals, sundowners and cultural visits to the families of the Masai in the area. There is a well stocked library and the camp offers its own private spa treatment centre, the ‘Masai Well-Being Space’. It’s a private cottage hidden in the camps valley’s olive and cedar forest; it is devoted to the use of local plants for beauty and relaxation treatments.
