Little Kulala Camp

Little Kulala is a Premier Camp. It is situated on a large private reserve, bordering the Namib Naukluft Park, in the heart of the Namib. This is the only reserve with direct access to Sossusvlei through its own private gate. The camp has recently undergone a total refurbishment and rebuild. It is now Wilderness Safaris flagship camp in Namibia. The camp offers magnificent views of the famous red dunes of Sossusvlei, superb mountainous scenery and vast open plains.

The 11 climate-controlled, thatched and canvas "kulalas" (Kulala in the Namibian language Oshiwambo means "to sleep") merge into the desert landscape, each built on a wooden platform to provide maximum airflow. Along with innovative bleached decks, indoor and outdoor showers and a plunge pool, bedrolls can be placed on a private stargazing platform on top of each room to sleep under the stars. The main lodge has a lounge, bar, dining area and swimming pool with breathtaking 360˚ desert landscapes. New additions include a wine cellar with a unique "desert sand" floor, library and a luxurious "siesta portico" incorporated into the swimming pool area. The elegant entertainment area includes al fresco fine dining as a highlight. The extensive use of neutral colours, gorgeous textures and natural light reproduce the soothing pastel tones of the desert.

Activities centre on early morning excursions in four wheel drive vehicles to the magnificent Sossusvlei dunes and the "vlei" itself. Some of these spectacular hills of sand are, at a height of 300 metres, the highest in the world. Wonderful desert breakfasts are served under camel-thorn acacias surrounded by the dunes. At extra cost ballooning safari’s are on offer. It is an incredible experience soaring silently above the magnificent sand dunes and desert. On the edge of the oldest desert in the world, wildlife is sparse but fascinating. Sightings of animals such as springbok, gemsbok, ostrich, bat-eared fox and aardwolf are exciting and extraordinary in these rugged conditions. The activities available leave guests with overwhelming impressions of the magnitude, solitude and tranquillity of this Namibian desert.
