The Retreat has been built into pristine land, untouched for centuries far away from anybody else on the banks of the Ruaha River in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve.
There are 12 enormous luxury tents where guests have the choice to be either accommodated within a comfortable distance to the main lodge on top of the hill in one of the six tented eagle hill suites enjoying an eagle view or can be very close to the river in one of the three tented river suites with individual plunge pool and chill out deck. The lion's river suite is conceptualized as either a family or a honeymoon suite with an additional small tent for either a children's home or a lounge for honeymooners. For guests seeking absolute privacy, the Hippo point, with two individual tented suites with plunge pools, individual bar, restaurant, own infinity pool and private cook, butler and guide is a unique dream. Each tented suite is erected on a 100 – 220 sqm teak platform with private lounge and handmade outdoor bath and additional indoor bath facilities.
The main lodge consists of a clay fort with an infinity pool, a terrace overlooking the river where hippo often congregate in the evenings and the first spa in the Selous where you can enjoy a massage after a long day on safari.
Watch the sunrise, as hippos wallow in the river and the omnipresent grey green crocodiles become mesmerized by the Selous bird life. Then at sunset look forward to sipping a refreshing cocktail at the river bar at another infinity pool and to exquisitely enticing local and international cuisine. Enjoy fine wine, champagne, or a glass of your favourite cool drink.
The Retreat's romantic outdoor Spa on the shores of Ruaha River offers pampering whilst listening to birdsong, the murmurs of the river's wash and the breeze in the natural roof above the treatment areas.
Activities include game drives, boat safaris and walking safaris with experienced guides. Fly-camping can also be arranged in advance if you would like a night under the stars.
