Kenya and Manda Island


A sample itinerary for a 12 day journey including Amboseli National Park, Masai Mara National Park and Manda Island, Kenya.

Day 1

You will be personally met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and transferred to Macushla House. This guest house has six bedrooms and two lounges with open log fires, a swimming pool and lovely, spacious verandas. Macushla is renowned for its eclectic collection of artefacts from all over the world and its calm, serene atmosphere. It is a short drive from Macushla House to some great places of interest including the Nairobi National Park, Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Centre and the Karen Blixen Museum.

Days 2, 3 & 4

You will be collected from Macushla House at 06.30 and transferred to Wilson Airport for your flight to Amboseli. From the Amboseli airstrip you will be collected and driven to Tortilis Camp where you will be greeted by the magic and beauty of Africa’s largest mountain, Kilimanjaro.

Tortilis Camp has 17 large and spacious elegant tents with en-suite bathrooms. Its main area is exquisitely built with natural materials and is under thatch with a main lounge, bar, dining area and swimming pool.

Activities at Tortilis Camp centre on Amboseli National Park which is well known for some of the largest herds of elephants in Africa. The landscape is quintessential East Africa, flat savannah grassland stretching as far as the eye can see. Amboseli is also rich in game with buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, eland and lion often seen.

You will game drive in open four-wheel drive safari vehicles, enjoy bush walks with local Masai guides, have bush meals, sundowners and cultural visits to the local community. You can also enjoy massages at Tortilis.

Days 5, 6 & 7

After a good breakfast you will be transferred to Amboseli airstrip for your flight to the Masai Mara National Park. Here your guide will meet you and you will take a game drive to Elephant Pepper Camp.

Elephant Pepper Camp is located away from other lodges within the 3,600 square kilometres of the protected Koiyaki wilderness area; a prime wildlife area. You will spend three nights in this intimate camp.

The eight spacious canvas tents have en-suite facilities and are very comfortably furnished. The experience of being in the Masai Mara defies description and is truly one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on earth. Your activities here include day and night drives, bush walks, bush meals, sundowners and cultural visits to the local community. Nothing rivals sitting around the campfire at Elephant Pepper camp enjoying the sounds of the African night.

Days 8, 9, 10 & 11

After your last game drive in the Masai Mara you will catch your flight to Lamu via Nairobi. Lamu Island is in a romantic archipelago of islands off Kenya renowned for its clear blue waters and pristine beaches. On arrival at Lamu you will be transferred by boat to Manda Bay on stunning Manda Island.

Manda Bay is an unspoiled, idyllic island of the Lamu archipelago. Manda Bay consists of 12 spacious and comfortable cottages set amongst miles of soft, white sand. Each cottage has its own veranda and is constructed out of local materials. You will spend four nights in this heavenly paradise relaxing and enjoying the many activities on offer which include windsurfing, laser sailing, snorkelling, mangrove trips, waterskiing, kayaking, creek fishing, salt water fly-fishing, deep sea fishing, cultural visits and massage.

Day 12

After lunch you will be transferred by boat in time to catch your flight back to Nairobi.
