A sample itinerary for a 12 day journey to Sossusvlei, Damaraland, Etosha in Namibia and Paradise Cove, Mauritius.
Days 1 & 2
You will fly from Johannesburg to Windhoek where you will be met by your pilot who will take you through to the light aircraft with which he will fly you to Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp in Sossusvlei, Namibia. Following a breathtaking scenic flight to Sossusvlei you will be met by your guide at the airstrip and he will transfer you to the Camp where you will spend the next two nights.
Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp has been built near the top of a mountain, using rock, brick, timber and thatch and provides a comfortable refuge from the desert. There are nine guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms, each with its own private plunge pool. The camp offers breathtaking views of the famous red dunes of Sossusvlei, as well as magnificent mountainous scenery and vast open plains.
The giant orange sand dunes of Sossusvlei are the largest in the world, the sense of space is awe-inspiring. Activities centre on early morning excursions in four-wheel drive vehicles to these magnificent dunes, wonderful desert breakfasts surrounded by the Sossusvlei dunes and scenic sundowner nature drives.
Days 3 & 4
After breakfast you will depart by light aircraft and fly over the dunes of the Namib and Sossusvlei to gain a different perspective of the area from the air.
The flight offers spectacular desert and Skeleton Coast scenery, where the dunes and the desert meet the Atlantic Ocean. Your flight takes you over the site of the Eduard Bolen shipwreck, the flamingo’s at Walvis Bay and on to Swakopmund. Here you will be met and transferred to Walvis Bay for a wonderful boat trip out to sea where there are frequently good sightings of dolphins, seals and sometimes even penguins and whales.
In the afternoon you depart from Swakopmund, for a scenic flight further up the Skeleton Coast, and past the Cape Cross Seal Colony to Damaraland Camp for two nights.
Damaraland Camp is situated on the northern face of Namibia’s Huab River Valley and looking south toward the imposing Brandberg Mountains.
There are 10 spacious tents with en suite facilities and the dining and bar areas are combined under thatch. All look down over the Huab River Valley.
Highlights of your stay at Damaraland Camp include nature excursions into the rocky desert in search of the rare and endangered desert Elephant and Rhino. There are mountain bikes available and walks in the Damaraland area are very highly recommended. Damaraland Camp also has a unique swimming pool.
Days 5 & 6
After breakfast you will fly inland by light aircraft from Damaraland to the north to Ongava Tented Camp set on a private 66,000 acre reserve bordering the Etosha National Park.
You will spend two nights in Ongava Tented Camp comprising of eight spacious and comfortable tents with en-suite facilities. The dining area under thatch looks out over the floodlit waterhole, always busy with wildlife. There is also a small swimming pool.
Etosha National Park covers an area of 22,000 square kilometres and offers excellent game viewing opportunities. Your game drive activities will be mainly within Etosha in the mornings. In the afternoon and evening you have the opportunity to enjoy walks, hides and night drives within the private Ongava Reserve, these activities are not possible within Etosha as it is a National Park. On the Ongava Reserve lion, leopard, elephant white rhino and black rhino as well as all the plains game can be seen. Tracking rhino on foot is one of Ongava's highlights.
Day 7
After breakfast you will be transferred to the Ongava airstrip for your flight back to Windhoek International Airport. From here you will fly back to Johannesburg and from there on to the beautiful island of Mauritius.
Days 8, 9, 10 & 11
On arrival in Mauritius you will be personally met and transferred to Paradise Cove Hotel which is just over one hours drive to the north of the Island. Paradise Cove Hotel and Spa is a wonderfully charming, intimate hotel hidden away on the edge of a gorgeous lagoon.
At Paradise Cove you will spend the next four nights on a half-board basis relaxing and enjoying the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful spot looking across the bright turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
The 67 rooms all have sea-facing terraces or balconies with direct access to the private beach. Two restaurants, a beach bar and a poolside bar offer a choice of formal and informal dining, the emphasis being on fresh produce, seafood and local and exotic cuisine.
A wide range of watersports are on offer as well as island cruises aboard the hotel's catamaran and deep sea fishing for tuna, shark and marlin (the hotel's record marlin weighed 1088lbs!). Other options include tennis, archery, mountain biking and beach volleyball. The luxurious new Cinq Mondes Spa offers massages, hammams and body treatments. Tuition in all sports is available free of charge by the hotel's own instructors.
Day 12
After breakfast you will be driven to Mauritius International Airport for your flight back to Johannesburg.
